Someone should step up. That’s what I thought when I first read about the only candidate that had announced for School Board in the Broad Run district. Kevin Kuesters said that he had two children in private school. He called our school system “an 800 pound gorilla.” Someone should step up, I told friends and neighbors on Facebook. I heard rumors that this or that person may run. Then, the filing deadline arrived. Someone will step up, I remember thinking as I drove into work that day. The next week I read Kuesters was our only candidate. Ah well, I thought, how bad could it be? Then October arrived, and I read about his arrest. Wow, it could be bad. Googling for news, I found he had declared bankruptcy last year. Wow, it could be really bad. I wish someone had stepped up. I woke on Saturday and got a call. “Would you step up?” I thought about it. I obviously care very much about our school system and how it’s run. I went to college on a teacher’s scholarship and spent five years as a public high school mathematics teacher. I have a Masters degree in Educational Leadership. My husband and sixth-grade daughter said they were behind me. My work said to go ahead. It was time to step up. Please write in Joy Maloney for School Board on November 8. Take that next step. |
